The essay is the foundation of all first and second year studies of English. That is why it is also very important that they take this one-time critical assignment seriously. It does not matter if the student is studying the entire language study curriculum, or a particular subject, for example history, reading, writing, geography, science, economics or religion. The essay must be conducted with honesty and sincerity and allow the student to understand what he is supposed to be doing, writing. The essay can either be for c lass or personal use.Essays are written by students in class for two reasons. One is to inform the class of what is expected of them in the course, and the other is to share their personal thoughts and opinions, or what they learned, at the end of the day. Such writings will enhance their learning.Essays, even if not for class, are also used for writing as a means of self-expression. They are creative works, developed by students, which are usually the most influential way of conveying their emotions and personal attitudes. Writing is also a way of communicating their views, which is extremely important in their overall development as human beings. Most importantly, essays are written for the sake of the student, not for someone else. Whether a student writes fora class assignment, or for personal use, as a way of expressing his feelings, the process is the same. The only difference is the audience. Each essay, no matter how simple or complex, should be done honestly and sincerely. Th e essay is never done for the sake of something for which it is written. Essays should be prepared with an objective in mind - to help a student develop his analytical and critical skills, as well as his writing abilities. They are never prepared for the sake of getting a higher grade. This does not mean that an essay can never be used for the purpose of scoring a point. For instance, one could write an essay on the poor condition of the school gymnasiums in their area and use the score obtained from such an essay to show that the school needs to improve the conditions of its school gymnasiums. However, such an essay, even if written honestly and for a purpose that is clearly related to the school subject, cannot be used for the purpose of scoring points.
